Unify Energy is now Market-Wide Half-Hourly Qualified
We’re proud to share that Unify Energy has been officially certified by Elexon, with approval from the Retail Energy Code (REC) Code Manager and the Performance Assurance Board (PAB). This means our systems, processes, and people are fully ready for Market-Wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS), one of the biggest changes to the electricity market since privatisation.
What does this mean?
Currently, energy suppliers (including us) forecast how much electricity customers will use, then check those forecasts against actual usage up to 14 months later. That’s called ‘settlement’.
Under MHHS, settlement will use real data from smart and advanced meters every half-hour. This makes the process faster, more accurate and better suited to a greener energy system.
The benefits:
Settlement checks are in around 4 months instead of 14
Better support for renewable energy on the grid
Future tariff options that could reward flexible usage
Better and more frequent data on energy consumption
Ofgem estimates £1.6 to £4.5 billion in consumer benefits over time
What does it mean for our customers?
No action required, we’ve been replacing old, non-communicating meters since last year to manage a smoother transition for you
Better, more frequent consumption data means more accurate reporting, helping detect waste so you can target actions to cut costs and improve efficiency
Potential for new, flexible tariffs in the future
How we’re preparing:
We volunteered for System Integration Testing (SIT), worked closely with the MHHS programme and industry peers to help shape the new systems and processes that will soon transform the energy market. With support from our partner Seaglass, we’ve been able to contribute valuable learnings, reports and testing outcomes that benefit the wider industry.
For our customers, this means we’re ahead of the curve. Early access to SIT gave Unify Energy a chance to adapt our platforms, strengthen controls and refine operations before the changes take effect. We’re proud to be one of the first suppliers preparing to go live with MHHS and one of only two smaller suppliers in the early group, ensuring our systems and our team are ready to deliver from day one.
Over the next 18 months, we’ll gradually migrate all customers to the new settlement system, ensuring a smooth and well-managed transition.
